AGHOSH

A Multi-Dimensional Chair

The Aghosh chair was created to showcase the versatility of CNC routing tables in the design industry. It utilizes joinery and uncomplicated hardware for easy assembly, disassembly, and stacking. The chair's design allows it to transform from a seat-back chair to a small stool or footrest, making it a practical and adaptable piece of furniture.

As the sole designer in charge of the project, I took it from idea to a fully functional design. To ensure maximum comfort and usability, I conducted thorough research on chair height, seat-back angle, wood joinery, and flat-packed furniture. Using this research, I created initial sketches and prototypes, exploring various ideas that could be achieved using a CNC router. From these sketches, I selected two designs to move forward with, which I then brought into Rhino 3D and cut out using a laser cutter to simulate CNC routing production. Once the final design was completed, I produced my first chair using high-quality materials and hardware. However, I decided to make a few minor adjustments and redesigns before producing a second chair. After completing production, I was left with two fully functional and comfortable Aghosh chairs.

Aghosh was crafted from a 4'x 8'x 3/4" Birch plywood and features black flat hex bolt and Philips countersunk hardware. It also has comfortable dark grey felt cushions and cream felt feet.
